“LEAD training style and method promotes open and interactive lectures with learners; nonconsequential learning encourages a two-way learning process—therefore a trainee as well as a trainer.”
I work as a Ranger Trainer at LEAD Conservation. My role includes developing and updating training content, planning and delivering sessions in line with LEAD’s instructional style, and making sure training remains both current and practical. I conduct assessments—summative, formative, and hands-on—as well as pre- and post-course evaluations to track progress, guide content coverage, and help both trainers and trainees reflect on their experience.
I’m also responsible for the certification process and for ensuring that training interventions remain aligned with field realities. That means adapting content to meet new threats and challenges in conservation, and keeping the knowledge and skills we teach relevant. I take pride in creating a learning environment that is safe, inclusive, and free from harassment, while also representing LEAD professionally to our partners and field teams. Protecting the organisation’s image and building strong client relationships are part of the job, too.
One of the things I value most is the work culture within the LEAD team. Everyone is open and ready to share, and that creates a strong foundation for mutual learning and trust. The way we synchronise our skills and knowledge helps ensure that our training is consistent, high-quality, and built on collective expertise.
I enjoy how LEAD involves its trainers in the full development process—from the design of content to its delivery. We’re not just handed a script; we help shape the product, which builds accountability and ownership. We also have access to a library of up-to-date training resources, all in one place, which makes preparation efficient and focused.
The open and interactive style of LEAD training—especially the nonconsequential learning model—means we all learn together. There’s no hierarchy in the classroom. Trainers learn from trainees, and trainees gain the confidence to speak up, ask questions, and contribute their own experience. That two-way exchange is where real growth happens.
I also appreciate the balance this role gives me. Being able to spend time with my family outside of training interventions helps me show up fully focused when I’m in the field. That balance supports the mission just as much as the work itself—because when we’re well, we train well.
I’m deeply enthusiastic about my work, and I’m always open to collaboration. I believe in supporting all partners who share our commitment to equipping rangers with the tools, confidence, and resilience to protect nature—often under the hardest of circumstances.
For me, this isn’t just about training. It’s about building a stronger conservation community. One that recognises the courage of rangers, values local knowledge, and works together to protect our ecosystems in practical, lasting ways.
“The work culture within the LEAD team is so strong that everyone is willing and ready to share at any one point—this allows for synchronisation of skills and knowledge amongst the trainers.”
