LEAD presents: Integrated Threat Reduction (ITR)

Conservation threats don’t wait. They move fast, adapt quickly, and rarely follow a script. That’s why we’ve launched Integrated Threat Reduction (ITR) — a structured, tiered approach to conservation security that helps teams on the ground take control of the threat environment, not just react to it.

ITR was built with the frontline in mind. It breaks conservation security down into three logical tiers: reactive, proactive, and preventive. Each tier supports a different way of working — from fast response to structured planning, and finally to long-term solutions that stop threats before they even appear.

This isn’t theory. It’s based on years of practical experience in protected areas across Africa. ITR gives team leaders and rangers a common language, a clear role, and a professional path forward. It helps command teams prioritise resources. It gives analysts and planners the tools to look ahead. And it keeps the mission grounded in what works: good decisions, good information, and good people.

For our partners and donors, ITR offers transparency, structure, and measurable progress. It shows how your support translates into real impact — from operational readiness today to long-term resilience tomorrow.

This is just the start. Over the coming months, we’ll be rolling out ITR with frontline teams, building local ownership, and sharing lessons along the way.

Because when the threat evolves, so must we.
