For protected area managers
Bring your team onto the standard.
A three-year partnership that builds instructors, leaders, and analysts inside your organisation — until you no longer need us.
Fit comes first
Is this you?
You lead a ranger workforce
You’re responsible for a ranger workforce protecting a defined area — a park, conservancy, concession, or community landscape.
You want competence, not certificates
You want development tied to demonstrated competence and certification — not certificates of attendance.
You can protect training time
You can commit management attention and protect training time. Our data is blunt: where leadership engages, training multiplies; where it doesn’t, it stalls.
You want it to outlast us
You want your own people to carry it forward — your instructors teaching, your analysts guiding operations, long after we step back.
If that sounds like you, we should talk. We take on a small number of new partners each year — chosen for fit, not scale.
The partnership
Six steps. Three years. Yours to keep.
First conversation
We learn your operational reality: threats, terrain, mandate, resources, and the people who do the work. You learn how we operate and what partnership demands. Fit is decided both ways before anything is signed.
Assessment
Through Recognition at the Gate, we map your team’s real capability against the standard. Experience is respected and counted; gaps are named honestly. Together we identify who will become your instructors, leaders, and analysts.
Pathways
Every person gets a role-based development pathway — RangerPro for field and leadership roles, Insight for analysts and decision-makers. In-person training is scheduled deliberately, where judgement and observation matter most.
Certification
People pass competence gates under observation — never attendance certificates. Your own instructors qualify to teach and assess to the standard, with LEAD moderating outcomes. Certification is time-bound, role-based, and centrally recorded.
Internalisation
Your organisation takes over its own development: your instructors run courses, your leaders assess, your analysts guide operations. We mentor, correct, and stay on the ground long enough for the system to hold under real conditions.
Oversight
LEAD steps back to what an institution should do: certification governance, revalidation, doctrine updates, and quality assurance. Your certified people keep access to my LEAD — their pathway records, materials, and the version-controlled doctrine library.
The standard, yours to carry.
Partnership is mutual
What we ask of you
We are honest about this up front, because our own evidence shows it decides whether training multiplies or stalls.
Leadership engagement
Management buy-in is the single strongest predictor of success in our monitoring data. Your leadership stays at the table for three years.
Protected training time
Your instructors need scheduled time to train, and your rangers to attend. Operations will always compete; the schedule must win often enough.
Redundancy in people
At least two instructors per capability, so one departure never erases a skill from your organisation.
Evidence, shared
You take part in our annual monitoring cycle — interviews, surveys, assessments — so impact is measured, not assumed.
If these four are in place, the rest is our job.

Special Projects
A capability requirement that doesn’t fit a standard course? If it lives in the conservation-security realm we can build and deliver it — drawing on the specialist depth of the Orchard partnership, at the level of quality you expect from LEAD.
Practical questions
Before you write
No. Recognition at the Gate (RAG) assesses experienced personnel against the standard directly. Demonstrated competence enters at the level it deserves; only identified gaps are bridged. Nobody is sent back to the beginning to satisfy a syllabus.
Partnerships are scoped to your team size and capability goals — there is no rate card. A typical three-year arc is in the range of a serious organisational investment, and many of our partnerships are supported by private or corporate funders. If funding is your constraint, say so in your message: connecting committed teams with committed funders is part of what we do.
Our partnerships are concentrated in Africa and Southeast Asia — our work has reached organisations in 32 countries. What matters more than geography is mandate, need, and your capacity to carry the standard forward.
Your organisation runs its own development: your instructors teach, your leaders assess, your analysts guide operations. LEAD remains as the standards body — certification governance, revalidation, doctrine updates, and access to my LEAD for your certified people. Oversight, not dependence.
Step one
Start the conversation
Tell us who you are and what you want to strengthen. No commitment — this is how fit gets decided.
The standard, yours to carry.
